Division chart
Division means sharing into equal groups, or finding how many groups fit. The picture has 12 cookies shared onto 3 plates, with the same number on each plate. Each plate gets 4 cookies. 12 ÷ 3 = 4.
The ÷ sign means divided by. You can check a division with times: if 12 ÷ 3 = 4, then 3 × 4 = 12. A dash on the chart means it does not share exactly, so there would be a remainder.
How many in each group?
The side number is the total. The top number is how many groups. The square tells you how many go in each group. Look at 24 and 6: 24 ÷ 6 = 4.
